About development of LiberOffice Writer

Hello, I am scientist and work in the institute of manuscipts. I wish to share with you with a definite problem. The matter is that preparing of old texts (coptic, syrian, old armenian, old georgian, old greek...) for publication, their page-proof is connected with different serious problems. Preparing of these texts for publication (or critical editon) has its requirements. For one, who knows special program for page-proof (InDisigne, Pagmake...), but is not specialist in those old languages it will very difficult prepare such texts for edition. That's why in practice the specialists have to correct the page-proofed text several times. Besides that, these programs don't contain special gadgets for critical editions. For example, the variant of concrete word in critical edition, in reference must be marked not with a footnote, but with a number of the line in which this word is written in main text. The above-mentioned, the page-proofed programs don't have such functions. For these purposes in these programs must be specially 'done' frame, where by hand it will be written not only the needed reference, but also the number of corresponding line. But the matter becomes more complicated by the fact that any text, while working on it, can be changed several times. And in this case in reference the designation of the corresponding number of the line must be corrected by hand. This problem is mentioned by us as an illustration; there are plenty of such examples.
For the solution of the problems, connected with the critical edition, the austrian scientist Stefan Hagel worked out the special program CTE which can fully automatize all operations (http://cte.oeaw.ac.at/?id0=main) connected with the publication of the text. This program is simple; it has MS Word/LibreOfficeWriter interface. That's why the scientists easily study it and they, themselves, can easily prepare the critical text for publication. But unfortunately this program is very expensive and it isn't popularized free of charge. We think, from the program point of view, that adding of the necessary gadgets to the LibreOfficWriter or to the similar programs must not be difficult. LibreOfficeWriter has many gadgets and it will be necessary only to unite them for facilitating the work.
If there will be no juridical casus, may be it will be possible to set up easily used, simple alternative program of 'CTE' for spreading free of charge on the bases of LibreOfficeWriter or the similiar program. With great pleasure I'll take part in enumerating those concrete functions, which are necessary for carrying out such programs.

This sounds like a very good idea, but the LibreOffice developers (probably) aren't here: you need to contact the project.

Thank you David for approving this idea.
This project is a forum name? Could you precise what you mean?
