Abiword .deb installs but no executables found

I'm trying to install Abiword on a Libranet 2.7 Classic set-up (OpenOffice.org is too much for my old, low-mem PC to handle).

I downloaded and installed the abiword-common package from debian.org. Installation seemed to work well, no dependency problems etc, and I have now got an Abiword icon in my desktop menus (I'm using IceWM rather than Gnome or KDE).

However, clicking the icon resulted in nothing happening, and typing "abiword" in a shell resulted in a message along the lines of "Executables abiword.b or abiword.d not found" (I'm quoting from memory here I'm afraid so can't be sure if those are the correct executable names).

Any thoughts? Should I have downloaded the Abiword virtual package instead of abiword-common?

Thanks - I'll try that. I had been using dpkg because I only have a dial-up connection at home, so had to download the packages at work and transfer them on a memory stick.

That should also work. The point just is, that you also need a debian package called abiword, not only abiword-common. Historically (at the time woody is released) there have been abiword with different widget-sets so the package is separated to binary package and a common package.
