Arrow abcde doesn't spawn many processes

Hi Guys,

This is abcde v2.8.1.

Code:
abcde -G -j 10 -m -o flac -V
So regardless what I provide for **-j** option, I still have a single process for encoding

Code:
~/tmp
➜ ps -aufx G abcde
563:dmitry 41418 0.0 0.0 118656 1024 pts/3 S+ 15:35 0:00 | | \_ grep -n --color=auto -i abcde
565:dmitry 39127 0.0 0.0 121080 5128 pts/2 S+ 15:32 0:00 | \_ /bin/bash /usr/bin/abcde -G -j 10 -m -o flac -V
566:dmitry 39624 0.0 0.0 121080 4004 pts/2 S+ 15:32 0:00 | \_ /bin/bash /usr/bin/abcde -G -j 10 -m -o flac -V
567:dmitry 41192 1.6 0.0 43816 14552 pts/2 DN+ 15:35 0:00 | | \_ cdparanoia -d /dev/cdrom 04 /home/dmitry/tmp/abcde.8c0aaa0a/track04.wav
568:dmitry 39625 0.0 0.0 121080 3924 pts/2 S+ 15:32 0:00 | \_ /bin/bash /usr/bin/abcde -G -j 10 -m -o flac -V
**How to fix?**

your grepping the wrong process.
abcde does not do the encoding itself, it delegates it to - ffmpeg? cdparanoia? i don't know.
even so, there might be a bottleneck elsewhere. how many cd players do you have?

Thanks for your reply, The ps clearly shows just a single process of cdparanoia. Also they are being processed sequentially, i.e. one by one and it takes 5-7 minutes to rip CD.

Regardless of -j param's value this time never change. I have 2 12 core XEON CPUs and htop shows that not even a single core is 100% occupied.

you have only one cd player.
it cannot go faster.

also, cdparanoia does not encode - it reads data from the CD. encoding to flac is done by a different process.

but with that amount of horsepower, the time for encoding will be infinitesimally small compared to the time it takes to actually read the cd.

did you even read abcde's documentation?
