archiver

Is there any good archiver for Linux ?

nautilus_1987 09-20-2002 01:16 PM

yes, a good archiver supporting RAR :)

MasterC 09-20-2002 06:25 PM

http://rox.sf.net Rox has one that supports just about anything I have ever seen. You might also wanna see if 'ark' which is part of KDE does too.

Cool

MasterC but ROX are another X-Windows?
I can get it........

MasterC 09-21-2002 12:07 PM

You can use parts of it. You don't have to go pure ROX, use bits and pieces from each wm, to build your own version of the best of. So the speed from Flux, Konsole from KDE, Rox for icons and for it's zip, bb for it's special features, what else? Whatever you want, that's the beauty of it.

So yes Rox is another one, but doesn't have to be the used when using features of it.

Cool

People, why I can not install simple .tgz?
I have downloaded ROX-archiver, opened Kpackage
opened that package and installed, but opening file list everything is matched with cross!!!
???

MasterC 09-22-2002 06:48 AM

Say what?

Use your command lines:
tar xvzf filename.tgz

Then go from there...

nautilus_1987 09-22-2002 07:04 AM

Is there some difference, if I install .tgz from console or from KPakage?
Will system then recognize it in Kpackage?

wonderpun 09-22-2002 07:08 AM

No it won't buddy. :) Simply do as MasterC said: tar -zxvf it like a simple tar.gz and then run the install.sh script. Good luck! :)

MasterC 09-22-2002 07:19 AM

Kpackage? Why are you using kpackage in Slack? If anything I'd use pkgtool. But for this, yeah, just tar xvzf

Cool

nautilus_1987 09-22-2002 08:32 AM

Wow pkgtool is good.....
