AAC without DRM: which software does playback?

Hi,

finally Apple decided to go without DRM, they call it iTunesPlus. I now have the chance to farewell from Windows, because I can change most of my purchased music with DRM into DRM free.
The audio format is AAC.
I presume there is a plugin to playback DRM-less AAC, right? Which one would that be?

And, another question which is slightly OT here: With my "last" Windows gone, where can I buy music online which has a store that works also with GNU/Linux (cause iTunes won't)?

Thanks!

Most media players should be able to handle aac/mp4 easily. You'll probably need to have faad and/or libfaad (the "free aac decoder") installed also.

However, this also means that the players need to be specifically compiled to be able to use that library, and depending on the software in question, the packages provided by some distros may not have it enabled due to patent or other "IP" issues. In such cases you'll need to find a different source for the player or recompile it yourself from source.

PS: Note that there's also a companion faac for encoding purposes.

Any media player will play it. Make sure you have FAAC installed:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/faac/
I'm sure ubuntu has it in the repo.
