A web based music player?

I'm looking for one. It doesn't have to stream to any computer that browses to it, but simply offer a web front end for itself, to music it will play itself.

|browser on client|--http-->|music "server"|--->|stereo|

If I had more time I myself I could probably do this in a day with an apache that cgi'ed to mpg123 or mplayer cli, but I don't.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Do you mean that the web interface should control the playing of audio files on the machine where the web server is running?

e.g. you have your web server on machine called foo, and a client machine bar (perhaps accross the net) connects to foo using a web browser, selects a track from a list, and that track starts to play out of the speakers on foo?

You are correct, Sir!

Using substitution:

|client browser|--http"play Voodoo Chile")-->|Foo: "okay"|--> -->speakers:"..cause I'm a Voodoo Chile, Lord..."

I don't know of one off hand, although I've never tried to do this, so that is not surprising. I did find a plugin for xmms which allows you to change the song through instant messaging, but not a web base thing. I didn't look verry hard though - perhaps another reader will suggest something.

If I had to implement it myself, I'd probably use some PHP or a CGI solution to spawn a command which would change the currently playing track. Again XMMS has a plugin for having a command-line based program to change the current song. If you are playing using amarok, you can use dcop for this.

I've never used it, but this looks like what you are after: http://www.musicpd.org/

Music Player Daemon (MPD) allows remote access for playing music (MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, AAC, Mod, and wave files) and managing playlists. MPD is designed for integrating a computer into a stereo system that provides control for music playback over a local network. It also makes a great desktop music player, especially if you are a console junkie, like frontend options, or restart X often.
