a tool for PDF modification? (import one pdf into another)
Hi!
I have a pdf file sheet.pdf and a bunch of smaller pdf files 1.pdf, 2.pdf etc.. I want to place thous smaller pdf's on specific coordinates on sheet.pdf and then export it as a new file.
I found a one way how to accomplish this, if only it would work. There's php class fpdf, that can generate pdf's and there's another class fpdi, that works with fpdf, that lets import pdf into existing pdf as template. I had experience with fpdf class, but had no luck with fpdi, it always generates blank pdf.
Then I found a pdftk a command line tool, that can manipulate pdf's. But it looks like from the examples, that it can't do what I'm trying to do.
If someone is experienced with pdftk, can you please give me example if it's possible to do what I'm trying to accomplish or maybe there's a different command line tool or a different way how to do this? any other suggestions? Thank you!
Well, basically pdf files aren't meant to be edited after creation. They're meant to be portable, something that you make ready and then distribute. Anyway it sees nowadays people *do* want to edit them, regardless of the fact that it would be easier, wiser and cleaner to just alter the original work and then export it again, to a new pdf file (and if you don't have the original, maybe you aren't supposed to edit it?)
I don't do that myself, but I see two "easy" approaches for this:
1) With some pdf readers, like Adobe Reader, you can select the content from the pdf. So, copy the contents off the pdf to another app, do the same for the other pdf files and then export the whole document.
2) Some office programs can, or so I've heard, do this as well (play around with the content of a pdf file); try Koffice for example.
Thanks, but I'm looking for a command line tool, I need to find a way how to do this automatically. I have a script that reads information from the database and puts it into a pdf. Then all the pdf's are listed, and I would select individual pdf's out of list, and then pass arguments to whatever tool would work for this situation and thous pdf's would be placed into one.
