alexBB,

I cannot recollect that the basic structure of LO Writer has changed much over a period of time.

I am currently using Linux Mint 17.3 MATE which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, so there is no problem there.

Here is the 5.1 version of LibreOffice, if you fancy installing it:

NB You will need to remove the existing version first.

Yes, guys, I opened up the pdf manual, first part, basics. It gives me the same info as the HELP menu in LibreOffice Writer. The same thing. The page dialogue does not have INSERT in my application.

@beachboy2 thank you, but I afraid to remove the existing application now that I am almost at the end of formatting my existing text. I've decided to finish off what I have now, it may take about 6 hours and then I will try to remove this Writer.

Thank you much. - Alex

Hello again.

I am running into a problem here. I am following the suggestion of beachboy2, so I uninstalled my LibreOffice package and downloaded 5.1 version according to the website he suggested. The package ended up in a tar file.

Code:
LibreOffice_5.1.4_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz
The problem is I cannot get there other than through a browser here. My OS is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. The installation website says that I have to move the directory in my TERMINAL to this directory:

Code:
/LibreOffice_5.1.4.2_Linux_x86-64_deb/DEBS/
and nothing I have tried worked so far. When I get into the Downloads directory I see this:

Code:
LibreOffice_5.1.4_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz
When I try to cd in this "directory" the OS tells me that it is not a directory. What shall I do? I need help.

Thanks, - Alex

OK I re-install LibreOffice following instructions of this website and nothing has changed. I still do not have that frame, people have showed me a number of times. I still do not have INSERT. I got precisely the same picture and I cannot insert page numbers.

I solved it. What happened was that I like to minimize the interface/frame and when I do it the upper task bar disappears. If I maximize the interface the top task bar shows up and there is an INSERT tab there all right.

Thanks everyone for help. Sorry for all the trouble. A lesson for me too. - Alex
