A good media player
 

I have been looking but it is hard ot find a good media player these days for linux. Yes windows does have the windows media player 7 but what do we the linux community have is Mplayer the only stable one around I have tried and tried looking but this is the only one i can find.

I would like to have a media player that supports most MPEG, VOB, AVI, VIVO, ASF/WMV, QT/MOV, FLI, NuppelVideo, yuv4mpeg, FILM, RoQ, OGG and some RealMedia files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. I woul like a player i can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, FLI, and even DivX movies. Are there any other options other than mplayer. The reason why i am asking is because for some reason i couldn't get the gui mplayer running so after reading i noticed it said that i should recompile it from the source and disable the runtime and cpu detection using the configure option. I tried to do this but is said that my GCC version that was running was bad or should i say too old so i would have to get 3.0 or above.

Is there another player(s) out there that can give me the same options as MPlayer? If so where can i find them?

http://sourceforge.net but I bet mplayer is the only one around here that is the most versatile multimedia player. As for gcc - mplayer is right about it I bet you have 2.96, which is in fact broken release of GNU gcc - don't ask me why RH and Mandy are still shipping it with their distros, but I encourage you to upgrade to 3.x.x or downgrade to 2.95 or earlier. As for GUI for mplayer - it is still in development, and I don't think mplayer developers are going to release stable, pretty looking GUI in any time soon.

There is nothing MS or Apple have that supports all that formats.And those are their formats.Are you dreaming??

When you recompiled it and it said that your GCC version is too old (or unsupported) did it give you the option of overriding? I'm using MPlayer under Mandy 8.2 which uses GCC 2.96 (unsupported) and it works fine when you override it... with only the occasionaly problem playing broken files. I think that MPlayer is the most flexible media player around... most of the others are written to play specific types of file.

i'm on mdk 9.0 b2, but i remembered that does work for 8.2.
as of now i'm not getting mplayer to compile here, but it's probably something to do with all the cooker packages i'm using.
