a good cause

i would like to make old pc available for schools in my district for classes to access internet. Linux comes in handy since it is free but how can i tell witch version of linux to use depending of the minimum requirement hardware. I know i can put linux on a floppy but that won't reach the objective of surfing on the web with a graphical interface. I am looking more like a chart with version with minimum hardware requirement.
Any suggestion?

thx

check out www.lfsp.org the Linux for Schools Project. They've done this before and could probably provide some excellent advice.
