A few Slackware questions

1) How do you configure sound cards? I have 2, the first one is the onboard sound card on my mobo, so I want to switch to the other one.

2) How do you determine your version of XFree86? I'm trying to download ATI drivers, and I've heard that the GATOS (gatos.sf.net) drivers are better than the drivers at ATI.com, but I need to know my version of XFree86 so I can download the right rpm.

Thanks.

By loading the appropriate modules ... if you need
their order changed have a look at /etc/modules.conf
and set-up options and aliases.

XFree86 -version
Doesn't Gatos have source rather than RPM, though?
Slack & RPM aren't really meant for each other :}

/etc/modules.conf EXISTS, but is empty. In Konquerer it has it listed, but says 0B.

Thanks

I meant tar, but said rpm, I don't know why.

What is the output of lsmod and lspci -v?

Cheers,

lspci -v lists a long description of things, including the soundcard that I want to have default:

Quote:
01:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Hercules: Unknown device a010
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 32, IRQ 9
Memory at e8104000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
(Card is a Hercules Fortissimo II)

See, the card is listed, I just don't know how to set it as default.

Thanks.

Nevermind, it already was set at default.

I ran KMix and found out that the volume levels were all the way down

*smack*

Thanks anyway
