A few problems...

Alright, before I even begin, I am somewhat new to Linux. I've used it numerous times in the passed but have always fallen back to M$. I know I want Linux to be my only OS and thus I completely removed all traces of MS from this machine.

Currently I am using Mandriva 10.2 and have installed all updates availible via Mandrake Control Center. Now, onto the problems.

This first one has been covered to death on the forums but I never did get it figured out.
xmms.
It complained about my version of glib. So, I first tried to locate the glib-config file but it did NOT exist on my system. So, I then headed over to gtk.org and downloaded the very latest version and installed it from source. xmms still complained. I then installed the EXACT version it was asking for, which is like, 1.1.2 or something. Yeah, dumb on my part. I went from the very latest installation to one of the oldest. Well, now when I try and ./configure I get the following error:
*** 'glib-config --version' returned 1.2.2, but GLIB (1.2.10)
*** was found! If glib-config was correct, then it is best
*** to remove the old version of GLIB. You may also be able to fix the error
*** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing
*** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is
*** required on your system.
*** If glib-config was wrong, set the environment variable GLIB_CONFIG
*** to point to the correct copy of glib-config, and remove the file config.cache
*** before re-running configure
no
configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first ***

Yeah, I know. I broke it. Now, basically what I would LOVE some help with is removing the old version, keeping the new one, and getting xmms to work. I know I should RTFM, which I have, but to no avail. Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
