I work for a public sector government office, where we have only work on computers i.e Typing the files and taking the prints on dot matrix printers. The users are 500 to 600 and the servers around 15 to 20.

Since long time we are using the trial version of some softwares but we want to get out of this and use the licensed instead of trials.

We presently have Windows 2000 Terminal servers and the Citrix device service installed into that with MS-office application. And all the Clients are ThinClients which are having ICA-main,Telnet, RDP, XDMCP.

We are used to connect this windows terminal server through ica and typing the documents and taking the prints on Wep LQ1050+DX printers.

Citrix is not meta frame only the service of citrix which is trial pack of 30 days after every 30 days we are reinstalling this trial version.

Recently we brought PC's into picture and all the environment changed with full of viruses both at pc and servers.

So, What i want is a solution which is in linux typing and printing (using the desktop not terminal )and accessed by the thinclients through ICA,RDP, or XDMCP (this is 1999 model of thinclient)

This willbe great if any one comeup with the solution, and who can make more than 10000 people to enter into the LINUX WORLD (this is major break thorough)

This project has been running for several years, and the LTSP community has many experienced people who can help you plan your deployment.

LTSP can use either thin client appliances or PCs. LTSP 5.0 software is included with Ubuntu, and Ubuntu's sponsor Canonical can provide commercial support. I beleive that LTSP 5.0 runs well on Debian also, but am not sure about how far Red Hat and SUSE have got with integrating LTSP into their products.

Same Situation

i.e is there any way to connect ICA, RDP support in Linux Server as I want to give the Desktop to all the Thinclients.

I tried to implement LTSP in RHEL4 is is successfull, but for some Thinclients which are far from the LTSP server it is not connecting, and for some The Display is not at all initializing.

and for some PC's the display is going out of sync.

So, Kindly provide the best solution to access the Linux Server Desktop through ICA or RDP.

The X-Window protocol is quite demanding, particularly when the applications are not well optimized, so you do need to consider available bandwidth, and be aware that certain applications may be particularly problematic. This issue is one reason why VNC is quite popular.

ICA and RDP are proprietary protocols. Although an Open Source RDP client has been written by reverse engineering, I am not aware of any Open Source server implementations.

So, The LTSP implementation is good, ok

I have done this, but coming to the Printer Installation Part how to install them.

The Thinclient starts from the LTSP and the printer is attached to that,
So, this printer has to configure there so that other users also can use the printer of that thinclient with in the LTSP environment.

may be what you're looking for. I experimented with this a couple of years ago, and found it to be everything that I had hoped for. Two years later, I would expect that it would be even better.
