A CD that crashes linux everytime

I've got a CD, each time I insert it in linux, it crashes the system, wether I use grip or dd, every time... It's scratched (and that's why I want to rip it, to recover the content).

Since the cd is scratched, you'd probably be better off going to Best Buy or Circuit City and buying Disk Doctor, a cd polishing kit, to remove the scratches. Then try to rip it.

I don't see how trying to rip it would crash the system; I'd expect I/O errors instead. Maybe something else going on?

Check the logs in /var. There might be some error messages. Also check the mail logs to user and root.

No logs, even with sync option on with syslog-ng...

I thought about buying Disk Doctor actually, pretty cool.

It's the only disk that crashed linux everytime, it even did it using kernel 2.4 on mandrake 10.1 ... back when I was using it... it's just that now I got fed up with having a disk that doesn't work on linux, and the idea that linux doesn't "support it"...

Oh, it works on the audio player, but not linux. (I should try the other systems)
