Only if glibc is compiled with multilib support before the rest of the distro is compiled. Frugalware and Arch64 are both examples where this is not the case and 32bit executables won't run.

32bit apps don't run on 64bit XP or Vista
Had a huge driver problem when I was beta testing there

FC5 64 bit sees the dual processors in a Pentium D, as do many of the apps I run on that box

Yes they do (on XP atleast), during my 2 days using it (yes, it was that crap) i had most of the 32 bit apps i use normally (some are a few years old) running under it. However it was a complete nightmare and buggy as anything (that is very buggy :P).
