5MB photos in Konquerer?

Hi all,

This part is the intro to my problem. If you just want my question, skip to the next paragraph.
This is kind of an odd question. I do professional photography on occasion (it's more a serious hobby at this point than a profession, though I have sold a few photos). Anyway, when my windows system went down a few weeks ago, I was able to save my photo collection by booting under Knoppix and copying out whatever photos I hadn't backed up or wasn't sure if I'd backed up on my alternate drive. Now, here is the problem. I have a folder of around 1,000 photos that are still unsorted, either because I hadn't gotten to them or because they may be duplicates. I want to sort them out but I find that photos which are around 5mb each (professional cameras take huge pictures -- and that's in JPEG format. In raw it could easily hit 10MB each) don't display as thumbnails under konquerer. It drove me crazy trying to figure out why some photos displayed and some didn't until I realized that those that were displaying I had cropped previously in windows whereas photos that hadn't been touched (and thus were larger) displayed a generic photo icon, not a thumbnail.

Is there any way to tell konquerer to display large photos as thumbnails also or is there another file manager I can use to browse them easily which would display them as large thumbnails and let me highlight multiple shots to be cut and pasted elsewhere?

While I know I could simply set up a library under something like Digikam (where if I understand correctly, it doesn't matter where they reside -- digikam just does it automatically), I prefer to simply keep them sorted into folders under subject and then if I need a specific shot, I can simply open the folder and browse for it. . .

Any info or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Eric

You could try:
Konqueror -> Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> Previews & metadata
Then set "Maximum file size" to something larger than the (default?) of 5MB

Try this program:

It's very efficient to manage big photo collection.

Thanks. I thought there was probably a setting somewhere that had to be changed.

I may take a look after I finish the initial sorting. Thanks for the heads up.
