Hi.

Did you login as root from the beginning of your X session or not?

If you logged in as a normal user, and then you used a root console, you have to give before all from a normal user console the command

xhost +

then from the root console give the java command

and when the command has completed its execution give the command

xhost -

Here

https://glassfish.dev.java.net/downloads/v2-b58g.html

you can find the rest of the story.

Bye

David

Two things you can try are:

A) If you have the "sux" program, use that instead of "su"
B) An example from the xauth man page: " xauth extract - $DISPLAY | rsh otherhost xauth merge -"
Since you are on the same machine, you could try instead:
xauth extract - $DISPLAY | sudo xauth merge -

Hi,

the "xhost +" command have to be given from a NORMAL user prompt.

Then, from another prompt, a root prompt this time, you can launch the java install program.

After the installation process has completed, from a normal user prompt, you can give the "xhost -" command.

Bye

David
