Question 3DFX DRI stopped working after last up2date

ok, so I've have DRI running fine on my Redhat 9.0 box (3dfx voodoo 3000).
After running up2date last night, DRI has stopped working. I have not changed the XF86Config file... It's running 24.20-28.9 from redhat
when running glxinfo, I get the infamous error:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".

after checking google to no avail, I decided to post here.

These packages of interest are installed

Yes, I have Load "dri" and Load "glx" in XF86Config, Section Device has Driver "tdfx", Section DRI has Mode 0666.
setting the variable LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose, I see this message

Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
libGL error: XF86DRIQueryDirectRenderingCapable failedname of display: :0.0

Any insight would be greatly appriciated
