3d graphics problem
I have a radeon 7000 and I have problems displaying 3d graphics in games. Can anyone help me?
I tried to install dri but I couldn't do it. I am new at this and installing things is kind of hard.
Also, how do I login to root through the terminal?
Thanks.

Well, if you're under your own username, in the terminal you can
type 'su' to become a super user. It doesn't give you all the root
privelidges though.
And about your 3D problems, I'm assuming you've installed Mesa
and your ATI drivers?

No I haven't. I looked on the site for the drivers but couldn't find one for the radeon 7000. How do I do these things?
Never heard of mesa. Should I worry about that before I worry about dri?

I just looked at ATI's website for Linux drivers and it looks like
your Radeon 7000 isn't supported on Linux. I only saw drivers
starting with the 8500.

Yes, I know this. Could someone tell me how to install mesa?
My friend has the same graphics card and the same linux and his 3d games work. So I know there is a way. I just don't know how. Any help would be appreciated.

Do I need to install mesa or dri if I have XFree86 4.3?
Also, if I don't need to install it, then why do I still have a problem with 3d graphics?
Thanks for all your help.

sorry but that's all I know (I'm a proud NVIDIA supporter)
there are HOW-TOs on that website. Try following one of them.

I'm pretty sure you have to install Mesa. I had to do it. If I remember
correctly, it's pretty easy. You just extract the tar to a folder and
then use the terminal to get to that directory and type:
./configure
make
make install

I am doing this and it's now working. This is the program I am using:
MesaDemos-5.0.1.tar.gz
Is this right?
I am extracting it to a folder in home called mesa. Is there a problem yet?
I also made sure the termanal program was in the right directory.
I typed in ./configure and it didn't work. Can someone please help me. This is a pain. Thanks.
