Yeah, I've got it installed - I don't use it that much though. What error did you actually get and at what point of the install?

Could you reproduce the exact error, please. "gl something" tells us nothing. There are many things that "gl something" could be.

Does the directory where you decompressed it to or any of the directories before it have any spaces in the names? That's what screwed me up when I tried to compile K3b; it kept looking for Folder/*.*'s in New Folder/

Looks like its searching for libraries for OpenGL. Do you have OpenGL support? Run glxinfo from a command prompt and post the results.

I was looking at the ebuild that gentoo uses to compile it(worked for me) here is the section on dependencies
Code:
DEPEND=">=x11-base/xfree-4.2.0
	=media-libs/freetype-1*
	media-libs/imlib2"
my guess is you need imlib2

Well, i managed to get it work, but i don't use it as it get from 5% to 9% of my CPU and almost 10% of RAM (out of 512Mb).
I think is too much for a "freaky" thing like that

But it only uses that much CPU/RAM when you are actually using it, right? As in "switching desktops".

No, the daemon (3ddeskd) is always running at background with that consumption. Without that daemon, 3ddesk does not run.

That's weird, 3ddeskd shows 0 cpu usage when I'm not actually using it. With 6 desktops it does use 97 out of 768 Mb of RAM. Too bad it couldn't use memory off the video card instead. I only use it now to show my Windows using friends how cool Linux is.
