3D Animation and Modeling packages

I use to be heavily into 3D deisgn using Maya, Softimage, Renderman and the like but I'm curious to see if there are any free(dom) 3D suites other then Blender and Moonlight|3D (K3D) that can pull off promising results.

I've heard of PovRay(sp?) this is just a renderer tho, correct?

So has anyone heard of a 3D modeler/animation suite besides the two?

I'd really like to find one for my GNU/Linux desktop so I have absolutely No reason to use Windows.

also: any audio apps you know of that work similar (and as advanced) as SoundForge?

I don't have any experience with any of the software. But, I did a search on Google which returned quite a few results you might be interested in.

rezound is a very promising alternative to soundforge and it is rapidly becoming very full featured. why don't you just use blender, is there a reason why you can't?
