32-bit flashplayer on a 64-bit system

I am using Debian Lenny on an amd64 unit. Has anyone been able to view Macromedia's 32-bit Flashplayer on their 64-bit system?

Sure, you just use nspluginwrapper, but you should really try the 64bit version 10 alpha first instead.

I solve this kind of problem by simply running 32-bit versions of Linux---regardless of HW. Unless you have an applications which really needs 64-bits, sticking with 32-bit will save some hassles.

I was trying to help with a similar issue, and "nspluginwrapper" has not been mentioned. According to some of these links, there are issues---at least with Flash 10.

I have tried both methods on a 64-bit Debian system, both work.
As Lurko said, try the native plugin first.
If you have problems, nspluginwrapper is only an aptitude install away!

From http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html I can get the download for the 64-bit plugin. Where do I place/install the
libflashplayer.so?

While this is distro specific here are a few common places:

/usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.8/plugins/libflashplayer.so

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

The mozilla locations are a legacy location (I do not use mozilla itself) and some other browsers look in this location. You can place the file in each of these locations (assuming they exist) or just place a link to them.

Here's some install instructions from the adobe site:

1. Download the plugin to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
2. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
3. Quit your browser.
4. Remove all existing Adobe Flash Player installations from the system.
5. Unpackage the file. A directory which contains libflashplayer.so will be created.
6. Copy libflashplayer.so to ~/.mozilla/plugins. Create the 'plugins' folder if it does not exist yet.
7. Launch your brower. To verify installation in Firefox choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

Regards.
