2D animation tools

Hi, I am looking for tools to make an animated cartoon, a la South Park. I can make the sprites and backgrounds in GIMP, and can record the voices, but I do not know what to use/learn to use to animate the whole thing, and perhaps put the sounds in as well. I have looked at a few programs, such as 'mvComicsMaker' and Cinelerra, but they are either old and don't build anymore, or don't seem to do 2d animation very easily. Any suggestions on what programs would work well for this are very welcome

This is the best (and least expensive) alternative to Flash, and it's native to Linux.
