2.6.0 and RPM conflicts???
 

So I finally got around to upgrading my kernel to 2.6.0. However I tried to use rpm to install a package and it locked up on me....so I tried a "rm __db*" and "rpm rebuilddb" etc and it didn't work. Nothing related to rpm seems to work now on 2.6.0 for me.

From the searches I've done (google) I've been able to find a couple of threads on this but it's all above my head. Something about NTPL (sp?) and db4/3 etc etc. Does anyone know how to fix this or can explain it to me in plain english :-)

I'm using kernel 2.6 with mandrake 9.1 and nothing strange happens with rpm. NPTL should not be an issue if the only extra thing added is the kernel (2.6)

in short what it says:
do a 'export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5' before using rpm or upgrade to the latest version of rpm

imho, you should upgrade to the latest version of rpm, since pretending to use kernel 2.2.5 is not a very nice solution.

hmmm....well I have RPM 4.2 according to "rpm --version", which is the latest from what I can gather. So I went ahead and tried the export and that works (I know I don't like doing it that way either but it works).

I might have spoken to soon. Doing the export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL allowed me to do a "rpm --vv --rebuilddb" but I still can't use rpm to install / upgrade anything. I still get the "can't join environment db3 blah blah blah" stuff.

Any other ideas?

I'm wondering if this problem happens to everyone using 2.6.0. It seems to be a very common problem and should be fixed by either the RPM developers or the kernel developers as soon as possible.
