Thumbs up 1 more reason why I love Linux

Check this out... I ssh'd to my Sparc Ultra5 that runs Fedora/Aurora Linux for Sparc from my AMD/x86 box running Mandriva 2009.

Now I thought the way programs were compiled for different architectures means you cant, for example, run a Sparc binary on an x86. However, due to the power of X, after I logged into the Sparc I ran kwrite and displayed it on my x86 machine. Ipso facto, the x86 cpu is running the Sparc's kwrite program. Is that cool or what.

Next I'm going to try running a Solaris app on my x86 box while logged into my Sun enterprise 450.

:-)) Peter

No. You misunderstand:

kwrite is running on the sparc, but being displayed on your X86 machine.

Binaries compiled for a sparc will not run on X86.
