[Tinycore Linux 64bit] one way to run firefox from unpack

longer title/intro
###################
Altho this post could go into success story its bit unusual so its ALTERNATIVE to normal methods and may not suit purists

in TC, there are a number of web browsers including Firefox (FF) one of which is achieved thru a get script.

In terms of pure TC, my method breaches pristine state in that I am running executables from my home dir instead of containing them into a TCZ.

I could package the script and make a dep file but below method is actually easier once you understand, that if firefox does not run you read the error message in the terminal....maybe in future I will need all of the dependencies from coreplayer2's TCZ but for now I don't.

CREDITS
coreplayer2 for his lib64 trick

###################################

step one
########
TC allows you to create local scripts or executables under
Quote:
.local/bin
copy and paste this and save the file as .local/bin/fox and make it executable

Quote:
#!/bin/sh
tce-load -i gtk3.tcz
tce-load -i libasound.tcz
tce-load -i dbus-glib.tcz
tce-load -i cairo.tcz
tce-load -i hicolor-icon-theme.tcz
tce-load -i adwaita-icon-theme.tcz

sudo ln -s /home/tc/firefox/firefox /usr/local/bin/firefox
sudo ln -s /lib /lib64

firefox
Code:
chmod +x .local/bin/fox
The reason for choosing fox is so you compare, over reboot the loading of FF via unpack versus one from TC repos.

If you are not using local login as tc, please change that part of the script

step two
########
Download the latest FF from their web site.
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

I don't need locale set to a non-English language YMMV

In TC if you download a non-US FF you will need to set up your locale as per the Apps TCZ getlocale....untested by me.

step three
##########
Unpack the bz2 FF file and move the unpacked dir under your home

so being lazy my FF is /home/tc/firefox

step four
########
Check you have downloaded all the TCZs from my script and then open a terminal and run the command fox
if FF opens ok you should see no errors in terminal.

"already installed" will depend on TCZs in your boot list

Code:
tc@box:~$ fox
gtk3 is already installed!
libasound.tcz: OK
dbus-glib.tcz: OK
cairo is already installed!
adwaita-icon-theme.tcz: OK
hicolor-icon-theme.tcz: OK
extra info
I did not need gamin TCZ loaded to get FF to run

Good Luck

edit

I cheated ....I was on openbox in running this command and forgot to check that libGLESv2 may also be needed to be loaded.

I don't run 32 bit and won't test on 32 bit.

In a recent post at TC forum, firefox 64 apparently needs 2 new deps for those running the get script
of gdk-pixbuf.tcz and gcc-libs.tcz

my local bin running firefox from unpack does not use these but is now shown in full

Quote:
.local/bin$ cat fox
#!/bin/sh
tce-load -i gtk3 libasound dbus-glib cairo gamin adwaita-icon-theme hicolor-icon-theme gdk-pixbuf2 speexdsp
sudo ln -s /home/tc/firefox/firefox /usr/local/bin/firefox
sudo ln -s /lib /lib64

firefox
