[Postfix]Configuring.
Hello, im currently running ubuntu 9.04 with latest version of postfix downloaded from repo.
Im trying to make my own mail server, i bought a domain on internet and i'll like to make my own mail server as well.. at first i was told to download QMail but then i saw it was kinda hard to install so i installed postfix, the problem is i dont understand if i need anything else, in the guides it says this Code:
General type of mail configuration: Internet Site im not newbie to ubuntu, but hell yeah im newbie to postfix haha any help would be appreciated thanks!! |
There are several good guides to postfix out there. I'm not familiar with an Ubuntu guide, but would be really surprised if there weren't one around.
One possibly useful guide, at least as far as configuration, might be NedSlider's on the CentOS wiki. Even though it's not Ubuntu, it will deal with the necessary edits to main.conf. (Hrrm, I think I see the guide you're looking at--by the way, when a particular guide is giving you trouble, it's always best to give the link. Is it https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Postfix)? At any rate, try http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/postfix I'm not sure about Ubuntu, but as a rule (having set it up on several CentOS, Slackware, Gentoo, Arch, and FreeBSD servers) you should just have to edit main.conf and be good to go. |
After reading quite a lot i've understand most of the configuring part, but still i can't understand the part where i add my MX server.
i've got a domain on register.com and in the part that i edit MX servers this is what i get. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7464/mxrecord.jpg what shall i add? i dont know what to fill it with!. Help would be appreciated thanks! |

Shouldn't you just have to add the host name of the mail server--that is, the name from which it can be reached from the Internet? Though I'm not quite sure what they want in the mailserver part on the right hand side.

I was talking to register.com help, and they told me i can't have dynamic ip, even though i have no-ip service. in which the adress brea.no-ip.info redirects to my ip.
any help? |
