[Gnome] [solved] new connection in a nested window

Hi,

I have been running that applet once and was very pleased with it. It was some days ago, after a fresh gnome install on my laptop. But now, it's broken : nothing happens when I click on the 'new connection in a nested window' menu (roughly translated from French)...

Here's what I find in my logs

localhost gdm # cat :0.log.4

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

And

localhost gdm # cat :20.log.1
AUDIT: Fri Jul 14 04:18:46 2006: 9588 Xnest: client 12 rejected from local host
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

I have also many 'Xnest: unhandled event' in another gdm log.

It may be relevant that gdm (without using Xnest) crashes at times, so I don't use it.

Some info :
Gentoo with Gnome 2-14 and xorg 7.0-r1 (all stable builds)

When I force Xnest with

Xnest :1 -ac &

, I do have an X window showing up... So I don't catch what's going wrong...

Any idea ?

Thanks ! :)

Well, the answer is... you have to use xdm/gdm for the app to work.:D Which I might have thought, since I was trying to open a new graphical connection.

BTW, I discoverd Xnest, while searching, wich is very usefull. You can open a KDE desktop while in gnome, for example, and check for the results of some action in anothre desktop env.
