I did. Unfortunately, it didn't work. In Feisty, MPlayer is version 1.0rc1.

Have you e-mailed the mplayer-users mailing list? I think they are the best source for this problem.

So, I upgraded to Feisty and the system performance was _dreadful._ The system booted up fast and fine, but the graphics performance was so pokey as to be really annoying. I did a clean Feisty install and aside from the fact that I am no longer running direct rendering, things seem quite fine.

I haven't tried our hero yet. I will shortly. I notice that Totem now detects the type of codecs needed and downloads them on-the-fly, which is a nice trick. ;-)

I never noticed that about Totem. I'll have to try that, but I think I already installed all the codecs possible.
