'msconfig' eqivilant


hello all...

im running suse 9.3pro, and im somewhat new to linux

anyways, is there a program that will do the same thing as the 'startup' tab of the msconfig program... that is... let me choose EXACTLY what processes start up with the computer??? im going to run this on a slightly outdated laptop, and desire the fastest startup times i can get

I'm not sure what kind of startup script system suse uses, but most of the startup on many systems is controlled by scripts in either /etc/init.d or /etc/rc.d or something similar.

In Fedora there is a command "setup" that may be of help if your distro has it or a similar one. You can choose amoung other things what to run at startup as in msconfig.
For info in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d all scripts starting with an S start, with a K dont. The hard way is to rename scripts so that they start or not. But the setup command is much much easier. I beleave there are also GUI equivalents
