'Losing' installed programs in YAST

I've just installed SUSE Pro 9.2, and so far am loving the ease of YAST. However, I don't see many of the programs I install with YAST on the KDE menu, and am wasting far too much time searching all over the file tree for the executable and trying to run from terminal window.

Windows has the Program Files directory and Start-Run-Programs method of finding your installed programs. I'm sure I'm missing something.

I've installed several utilities that I still can't find how to run - for example Ghostscript. I do a locate and it returns a screen full of files, is it really trial and error on which one will run the program?

SuSE also has start > run program from the green suse icon in the bottom left where your programs are, just type in the program name and it will start it. Often times, SuSE will only add the icon to programs after you start it. Occasionally, it will not add an icon and you can set it up with an icon yourself and place it on the desktop. Best wishes, enjoy SuSE....:Pengy:

Installing SUSE desktop icons

After I install a program in SUSE Linux, how do I create an desktop shortcut similar to Windows?

How to create a desktop icon that will run the installed program?

right click on your desktop, go to create laucher, enter name and command name, for example "mplayer" in both, click the icon space, choose and icon, click ok..that's it...at least in gnome on suse 9
