YUM not updating

Hi,

I want to run yum update command to update all the patches in my machine. However, when i run that command, i am getting this error message stating failed dependency for libtiff.

So i ran yum update libtiff. But that is also not solving my problem. It is giving this output:

#yum update libtiff
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
Setting up Update Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
--> Processing Dependency: libtiff = 3.8.2-7.el5_5.5 for package: libtiff-devel
---> Package libtiff.i386 0:3.8.2-7.el5_6.7 set to be updated
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
libtiff-devel-3.8.2-7.el5_5.5.i386 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: libtiff = 3.8.2-7.el5_5.5 is needed by package libtiff-devel-3.8.2-7.el5_5.5.i386 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: libtiff = 3.8.2-7.el5_5.5 is needed by package libtiff-devel-3.8.2-7.el5_5.5.i386 (installed)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.

#yum update libtiff-devel
Loaded plugins: rhnplugin
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
Setting up Update Process
No Packages marked for Update

Can somebody please tell what I am missing and what needs to be done.

Thanks in advance,
Sushma_r

My initial perspective would be to remove libtiff-devel - "rpm -e libtiff-devel" and do it again. Unless you *know* you need it, you probably don't.

At the same time though, it looks like the update IS in RHN for you, so try a "yum clean all" first, and let it recache all the available repos
