wrong kernel issue

hi,
i have a few servers with this kernel

# uname -a
Linux testserver.com 2.6.9-67.0.7.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Feb 27 04:47:23 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

recently, i tried to install hp psp on these servers. I realised that it need the kernel-devel package. so i tried to install from the satellite.

it only has kernel-smp-2.6.9-67.0.15.EL-devel so i install this.

how do i make the system detect the new kernel? do i need to reboot? or is there any other way to do so?

You have installed the kernel source code for the new kernel. In order to use this kernel you will first have to compile the kernel. Then you will have to make an initrd. Then you will need to add the new kernel to your bootloader. Then you can reboot and select the new kernel from the bootloader menu.

I don't know if your new kernel will work on your hardware. Do you have a smp cpu? Also you might have problems running a 32 bit kernel if the rest of your software is 64 bit.
