whois does not reply

Hello

anyone can explain me why whois sometime does not reply for some
ip only ?

for example if I execute this from console

whois 187.34.234.180

I receive only this
[Querying whois.arin.net]

and I can wait also 10 minutes without any other reply.
It does not happen for all ips ; any idea ?

Thank you
Graziano

That IP is owned by

TELECOMUNICACOES DE SAO PAULO S.A. - TELESP
Some shower in Brazil. I think they have their own database of numbers. Try researching a bit and then use

whois -h [option] test_ip

Yes I know ,but why whois sometime does not reply at all ? In other servers I have , it works always .
I checked the jwhois.conf configuration file and it's the same.

ok , but why on some server

whois 187.34.234.180

responds immediately

and on some server

whois 187.34.234.180

does not respond at all ?

And using the same jwhois.conf

On server A If I ask for
whois 187.34.234.180
I receive the results immediately , always .

On server B If I ask for
whois 187.34.234.180
I receive only this
[Querying whois.arin.net]
nothing else

Which could the be the problem in server B ? Also note that in server B the whois does not work only for some ip .
