Question Which database?

I am new in linux (ubuntu). I want to develop a software, which will work in thousands of clients. (about 5000 clients). They will connect our server and get, delete and put informations to tables. Which kind of server would be more stable, fast, secure and professional?

Thanks for your interest...

well it really depends how you actually want to use the database, but the usual suspects are, of course, mysql and postgresql. postgresql is more standards compliant and such, but with the heavy support of LAMP over the last few years mysql is hard to avoid.

I am a big fan of Postgres. I have been using it for years and I can currenrly using it with RoR for my web server. I really like its native scripting procedural language and that you can add other languages like perl and python.
