Not sure what the question really is.

What exactly means "move to antoher platform"? What is the existing one? Do you plan to virtualize your existing linux boxes or are you looking for another hypervisor than kvm or Xen to get your existing linux virtual machines running? could you please redefine "vmware and san storage" ? Are you looking for a virtualization solution supporting san? This can also be done using kvm/xen.

A little bit more information will be very, very helpful.

Hello,

I think you're either confused about the technologies you mention or you're confusing us with your explanation of your question. I imagine, from your last post, that you want to know which of the two mentioned, VMWare or SAN storage 'helps' Linux admins. The answer is both since they're two different things, one is a virtualization platform and the other one a storage solution. What do you mean when you say that most VMWare administrators are 'Windows based'? VMWare is a virtualization platform that gives you the opportunity to install a variety of guest operating systems on virtual machines. There's no 'exclusivity' for Windows. I work for a pretty big company here in Spain and we have about 1200 VMs running on VMWare and about 85% are some flavor of Linux (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian, ...). If you want to learn the technologies then you'll have to learn both since they are complementary (or can be) and not the same.

The more verbose you are in your question description, the more dedicated answers you'll get.

Kind regards,

Eric

I think part of the confusion is that you keep using 'are' when you should use 'or'. I'm assuming English is not your native language.
eg
'are else ' should read 'or else '

In any case, choosing whether to extend your knowledge towards SANs or VMs is up to you; they are not competing technologies.
