where will we do autofs

I am in the learning stage of AutoFS.
I want to know whether we do autmouting on the server side or the client side.

Could some one let me know end to end configuration of autofs. when will we go for auto.master and auto.misc.

Is there a possibility tht we can create our own autofs configuration file.

can be either way. the automount that is created via autofs is local on the system it is running on. typically it is used to automagically mount NFS or CIFS shares that mount/umount on the fly.

the advantage to autofs via mounting in fstab is the resource is only mounted upon access. it is not mounted during boot or via mount -a as root.

autofs itself is a client tool, usually mounting remote server nfs shars, but others can be specified.
See http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ig-autofs.html for a good howto and http://linux.die.net/man/5/autofs & related pages for more depth/examples.
