Where is mysql installed at?

Hello,
I am trying to determine where "mysql" is installed. I swear I have uninstalled mysql but I can still execute the command "mysql" and it works so where is that "mysql" located? This is on Ubuntu 9.1 Server
Let me know thanks!

"which mysql" will show you where the binary is.

Perfect that worked!
it says it is at /usr/bin/mysql can I just do a rm on it?

It would seem that mysql still has a package installed out there I have done several attempts to remove it but none have been successful.

dkpg --purge mysql-server

dkpg -r mysql-server

dkpg --purge mysql

dkpg -r mysql

Any other ideas on how I can cleanly remove mysql?

Try "sudo dpkg --purge mysql-client".

Maybe a stupid hint, but to see if there's still a package related to mysql you can try

dpkg --list *mysql*

Regards

dpkg --get-selections | grep mysql

.. will show the installed mysql packages ..

Then you can remove e.g. mysql-client-5.0
mysql-server-core-5.0 ( libmysqlclient15off )

.....
