what does VG mean on a drive icon in the GUI

trick question I noticed that the drives I set for RAID are not mountable I tried to look at the properties but it is all unknown. I am using a DEll Poweredge 4600 server and have 2 of the three drives I installed set in one container and one drive set all by itself. what does VG mean and how do I get access to that drive group

You might want to look at Chap 4 RAID & Chap 9 LVM here http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_boo...ion/index.html. These are not the same things.
