what are local0 to local7 services in /etc/syslog.conf

Hello,

What are local0 to local7 services in /etc/syslog.conf ? Can they be defined somewhere in some file ? How can one understand what does local0, local1 and so on mean ?

Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the syslog levels in the man page:
http://linux.die.net/man/3/syslog

Cheers,

I have already gone thru the man pages and all possible docs which only specifies

Quote:
LOG_LOCAL0 through LOG_LOCAL7
reserved for local use
Want to know how can we actually use eight services. Anyways one of the posts http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...local7-310637/ has what I was looking for.
