What's the simplest way to install XML-RPC for PHP?

I'm running RedHat 5. I am using PHP 5 and Apache2 which have been compiled when I installed the OS.

My problem is that I need to add XML-RPC for PHP.
AFAIK the only way to do it is to recompile PHP?

I tried to recompile using the configure string from phpinfo, but it gave me a ton of errors and missing dependencies.

Before I go any further - is recompiling PHP my only option?
And if so, why do I get so many missing dependencies when I'm using the same exact configure string the anaconda installer used?

there is probably a rpm solution available for RedHat
