Web server load goes to 90


Dear All,
I have web server with whm install on it .its working fine but some time Load goes to 90 or 98 . and server goes to the not responding mod . and that time i do not enter simple cd or ls command .its normal after 3 or 4 mints .Sits are not responding at that time what causes that server load goes to the 98 .server specs are under
CentOS release 5.11 (Final)
kernel version 2.6.18-408.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jan 19 09:13:33 EST 2016 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
WHM version 11.56.0.33

So what do you have / do when the load of a server goes up?
Do you have any (remote) monitoring?
Do you automagically check server details in any other, preferably automated, way (like with atop)?
And do you perform any post-mortem after the incident?
Like checking system and daemon log files for traffic, anomalies etcetera?
Does this load occur at regular intervals? Have you checked cron jobs (backups perhaps)?

Please note EOl for CentOS 5 is March 31st 2017.
Please note latest stable 11 series WHM is 11.58.0.12 released August 2nd 2016.
