vsftpd won't start on red hat enterprise 5.7

I am using red hat enterprise 5.7 OS and the problem is that vsftpd won't start. When issuing Service vsftpd start it comes up with failed. I am using the default RPM to install it, also using the default vsftpd.conf I shall show this bellow.

Where can they be found sorry ? Are the error messages under, /var/log/messages ?

I'm not sure what file you want to see though there is no error message file or no vsftpd.log file either. But here is a section of the messages file.

Didn't work came up with the error:

"starting vsftpd for vsftpd: 500 OOPS: vsftpd: not configured for standalone, must be started from inetd FAILED"

I start it with "service vsftpd start" or "etc/init.d/vsftpd start" and neither of these work.
