VNC disconnect immediately after correct login...

Hi - I have connected from my work PC (running WinXP pro) to my home PC, using RealVNC Viewer Free Edition, running KDE on openSUSE 10.2 for several weeks without a problem.

Since yesterday, after logging in at the KDE login screen (using port 5901) the window just closes with no message suggesting why. I tried using TightVNC and that does exactly the same thing. I also tried using <my IP address>:5801 in Firefox, which shows the login screen then gives "Network Error: Remote Side Closed Connection" on a correct login.

Giving wrong login details gives the "Login Failed" response.

I've tried all the options under the "Session Type" menu (Default, Custom, FVWM, KDE, TWM, Failsafe) and get the same result. I've tried rebooting the machine and get the same result. I've tried using the Remote Administration dialog in YaST to try and get it to work (by disabling and renabling) but it still has the same problem.

I can login to my machine using telnet on port 22.

I've searched the web for a fix to my problem but I haven't found anything that suggests a fix.

TIA,

andy

My fully updated SUSE 10.2 is doing exactly the same thing. Have you found a solution?

Yes.

I installed NoMachine and now use that instead.

www.nomachine.com - the instructions on the site got me up and running.

Hi Andy,

I was having same issue in MAC leopard version. I did enable remote desktop in that but could not login through vnc viewer. It was getting disconnect after I enter password.

Solution was to use "Full (all available colours)" in vnc. After setting this I was able to connect. Seems your issue is similar to this. Give it try.

The problem is the IPv6 implementation.
Please, edit /etc/hosts file and comment all info about IPv6

For example, do this:

# special IPv6 addresses
#::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback

#fe00::0 ipv6-localnet

#ff00::0 ipv6-mcastprefix
#ff02::1 ipv6-allnodes
#ff02::2 ipv6-allrouters
#ff02::3 ipv6-allhosts

Comment everything with Ipv6 information refers to

After, restar the xinetd daemon
