Virtulization: Linux/WindowsXP
 

Hello Friends.

I have windowsXP on one computer. I am practising fedora/Linux on another computer.I am in need of Linux server. I am thinking of, to convert that WindowsXp in to Linux server.
But i need WindowsXp for my son's Games.(Of course I like Linux)

I am in doubt whether i should go for dual booting with new HDD?,OR Virtualisation.In case of virtulisation which OS is good as base. Means, Linux on Windows OR Windows on Linux.

OR I should spent more on used Sevrer.

I have P-4 2.8Ghz/1GB RAM/80GB HDD/two NICs/.

Dear Friends ! Please help by advising.

I think that dual booting is the better option. Virtualisation on Linux is great, but you will lose some of the power of the PC because you are running two OSes at once. +1 for dual booting from me.

Yes it is possible. But the games will run very slowly (if at all).

I vote for WinXP as the host, and use VMWare Server for a linux vm.

I've been playing with the new Kubuntu (KDE4 / KDE4.1) releases on a virtual machine.. and if I put it in full-screen mode, I have basically everything right there in front of me with minimum config. bridge the networking and get another IP for the virtual machine. If I want to test out another Distro, I just create a new VM.

As for why Windows as the host? Because if I want to play games.. I can always shutdown the VM's and use all the power for playing.

At work I use CentOS to host a couple WinXP VM's on a Dell PE 2650 (dual 3ghz, 4gb ram).

Home / Desktop use.. Windows host.
Work / Server use.. Linux host.

Use windows as the host and run linux on top. vmware or virtualbox.

I use vista64 with virtualbox and vmware running various operating systems: windows server 2003, windows xp, windows server 2008, windows 2k, slackware, centos, etc.
