/var is out of space, need to add extra disk and need to maintain the data .


im working at a corporate office with
Server: RHEL5.1
Database: oracle in /var
now the /var partition is out of space they want to add the fresh hard with with 500GB n want to do lvm in that disk.
the /var partition is normal partition before. In this senario wht should i do for it to access the all the data as usual for the users.

I would add the new hdd, create an lvm + format + mount, stop Oracle and move the data across to the new drive then remount it to /var and start oracle up again. How big is the drive at the moment? I assume its not a very active database if its on a single partition, also there is no redundancy?
