using Dell GX110s as thin clients

Has anyone tried to use Dell GX110s as thin clients with Edubuntu? Has anyone gotten them to work?

If so, any comments on how to make them work would be welcome. I've gotten mine to boot to some DOS loking screen that ltsp login.

I've already tried typing in a valid username and password at this point. I don't think that is the problem.

I think it is having some graphics trouble.

Do these need some type of graphics card or something?

I have gotten my compaq V2000 laptop to boot off the same network successfully.

As I wrote in your other post (ex rant )

Intel I810E chipset (see http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Dell-Optiplex-GX110-GX110).
Only advise is to increase the allocated video memory in the BIOS (default is set to 1MB). Else you only can use limited color depth and/or limited resolution.

No experience with ltsp, so that the only help I can give.

Thanks for the reply.

I checked in the BIOS. These particular 110s do not appear to have the menu in the BIOS to change the memory size. They have BIOS version A03.

Another computer has this menu in the BIOS but it is a Dell Optiplex GX150. The menu is called "Memory Information." However, you can't change the 1MB to anything higher because it is in blue. All the stuff in blue appears to be unchangeable.

I think I just need to find something a little more advanced to be a thin client. These 110s are really old. I was just hoping they would work because my school has oodles of them just sitting around.

You we're right, it does not have that option. I posted some relevant info in your other thread as camorri continued in there.
