usb sata 120gb harddisk

dear gurus,

i do have 1 hdd sata base usb. it has problem running mostly i/o errors coming.it was ntfs based where i used in linux and windows both.

when i scan and check i found no bed sector. but hard disk when i copy it work fine. when i retrieve or restore data it say
"i/o redundancy cycle check"

so is there any way i can check complete harddisk, if any error there or i can format like lowlevel format.

suggest advise me what should i do step by step to overcome this issue.

highly appreciated

This destroys all data.

I would just use gparted and delete the existing partition and create a new ext3 primary partition for my data.

If that doesn't work you can try this, replace the sdaX with your drive. Be really sure that it is right, you can check with fdisk -l

This will destroy all data
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdaX
 bs=1M
