Upgrade the kernel 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5PAE
Hello,
I have the kernel 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5PAE in one of my servers. The operating system is CentOS release 5.3. Can anyone suggest me the safest method to upgrade the kernel to latest? If I get the exact steps, that will be fine.. Thanx in advance |
Are you wanting the latest CentOS kernel, or something more like 2.6.30?
|
No I don't want to compile the kernel and upgrade it to the latest. i just need the kernel that yum install will provide me. Can anyone let me know the exact steps? I think a yum install will do.. Can anyone tell me the exact steps?
|
yum update kernel
or similar |
Hello,
Thank you for your reply. My question is whether I need to give yum update kernel or yum install? which one is safe. if anything goes wrong I want to get the option to reboot the server and bring back the server in the old kernel. Also, do I need to update the grub.conf once yum update is done? Or this will be done automatically? |
update.
CentOS will automatically keep 3 kernel versions unless you's played around with the config for yum |
