As you begin to read this, please keep in mind we are already in the process of upgrading the server to a better enterprise server (red hat). This server was setup a few years back (5 I believe) and never updated as it worked.

That is until now. We are now mounting our windows servers using NTLMv2 and samba 3.0.9 wont cut it (and it is the highest available, for obvious reasons). Anyone know where to get samba 3.2 or higher for opensuse 9.2 or how do I take the source of 3.6 and compile it to work on what we got?

I work for a major University and they tend to upgrade slow and if it works........... well lets just say they tend to wait until it breaks to upgrade.

What is running in addition on this machine? If it’s only Samba as the main application and the data for Samba has a separate mount point from the OS, it might be faster just to install openSUSE 12.1 which includes a more recent version of Samba (while saving the configuration of the actual setup).
